African Greys 16 Month 2009 Calendar. The African Grey Parrot is native to the shores of Africa although some are bred in captivity for the sole purpose of becoming a domesticated pet - it is thought that African Greys have been kept as pets for much of the last 4,000 years. These fabulous birds are also thought to have cognitive abilities which many display whilst in captivity. As their name correctly implies, these birds are predominantly grey, with small white flecks. Most African greys consume a diet based entirely on nuts and fruits which is occasionally supplemented by leaves from the rain forests in which they live.
