Akita 16 Month 2009 Calendar. The Akita is essentially a Japanese breed of dog which is classified according to the Japanese size system. The “Akita” describes the larger dog whilst “Shika” applies to medium sized dogs and “Shiba” to small breeds. The Akita is the largest of all Japanese breeds and was primarily used in hunting although more recently the population has declined to near extinction. The Akita posses a powerful presence and is an impressive dog which was once bred for pit fighting.
