Pandas 16 Month 2009 Calendar. Possibly the most widely recognised animal on the planet the giant Panda is essentially a mammal which is from the bear family and native to central and southern China. The panda's diet is 98% bamboo, but they may eat other foods such as honey, eggs, fish, and yams. It distinctive black patches around the eyes, ears and on its rotund body make it the most easily recognisable animal in the world. The Panda has been on the endangered species for many years. It has been recently estimated that only 1,600 pandas live in the wild with just a small population in captivity. Part of the Panda’s popularity must be attributable to the WWF - World Wildlife Fund who adopted the Panda as its mascot raising further international awareness of this special species.
