Great Dane (US) 16 Month 2012 Calendar. The dignified but affectionate Great Dane is the national dog of Germany. Its origins can be traced back to the dogs brought to Europe by the Alans, a Scythian tribe from what is now Asian Russia.
The US breed standard differs to the European only in that the ears are often cropped in order that they stand upright. This is something which is common place in the US but outlawed in many other countries and has never been generally accepted in Great Britain.
