Shetland Sheepdog 16 Month 2012 Calendar. The Sheltie is consistently one of the most popular breeds in Japan, and is also popular in Great Britain and North America. Although it is rarely used as a working dog, it retains many of its guarding and herding instincts, and will efficiently protect its owner's home. The Sheltie was once called the Dwarf Scotch Shepherd, although the breed is a classic miniature, and not a dwarf variety like the Dachshund breed. The Sheltie is a smaller version of the large working sheepdogs of Scotland.
